Strawberries are widely loved and appreciated for their characteristic aroma, bright red color, sweetness, and juicy texture. It is consumed in large quantities, either fresh or as an ingredient in jam, juices, icecreams, milkshakes, or pies, etc. Artificial flavors and aromas of strawberries are also used in various products like perfumes, soap, essence, lip gloss, etc.
Strawberries are native to the temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere and are cultivated and widely grown throughout the world. These are produced commercially for immediate consumption and for processing as frozen, canned, or preserved berries or juices.
Strawberries are an excellent source of Vitamin C, Manganese, Vitamin B9, and Potassium and have a low Glycemic Index(40). Strawberries have high water content, very few carbs, and a good amount of Fiber. Most of the Carbs come from simple sugars_ such as glucose, fructose, and sucrose. Therefore it is relatively safe for people having diabetes.
Strawberries may also-
· Reduce inflammation
· Decrease oxidative stress
· Improve lipid profile
· Improve blood antioxidant
· Reduce bad cholesterol(LDL)
Hence, considering the various boons of this berry, in this blog, we are going to learn a very versatile and easy strawberry recipe – “Strawberry Compote” which can be used in many desserts and as a filling for pies, tarts, etc. It can also be used as a spread on your toast. It has a good shelf life when refrigerated in an air-tight container.
Ingredients :
· Strawberries – 1 cup (chopped)
· Sugar – 3 tbsp
· Salt – a pinch
· Lemon Juice – 2 tsp
How To Make Strawberry Compote:
1. Heat a pan and add chopped strawberries to it.
2. Add sugar and mix them well.
3. On medium-low flame let the sugar melt. Keep stirring continuously.
4. Crush the strawberries with a spatula while stirring continuously.
5. Let it cook, till the mixture thickens and you get the required consistency.
6. Add a pinch of salt and mix.
7. In the last, add lemon juice and mix well.
8. Switch off the gas and transfer it to a bowl or container.
9. Let it completely cool down before using or storing.
